7th JUNE 2019-VLORA
On 7th of June 2019, the project staff of BIOECO-R.D.I made a visit to the modern olive oil mill “Musai l.t.d” located in Skrofotina, Vlora, to learn how the extra virgin olive oil is produced and how biomass is used as well.
It was very impressive to see the factory working area. It was evident the good conditions it offered due to the new investments made according to the European standards. The administrator of the company Mr. Vesaf Musai provided a guided and very interesting tour inside the mill to the project staff explaining:
First, the current procedures of extraction of extra virgin olive oil from Kalinjot native olives. He mentioned the fact that the olive oil he produces branded “MUSAI” is distinguished of the high-quality virgin and extra virgin olive oil. The product was certified as organic (bio) by the Italian Institute for Ethical and Environmental Certification (ICEA). For such values, the product of the company has been awarded in National and International Contests winning several prize awards such as:
- First prize
- Second prize
- Third prize
- Gold medal
- Silver medal
- BIOL Albania
Second, the way the olive biomass so called olive cake or olive pomace is produced from the extraction of the olive oil and its drying process and possible uses. Actually, said Mr. Musai the olive cake is mostly used in the type of ‘mat-like’ state into furnaces to warm water for the oil extraction process as new innovative ways of use are not very popular in Albania.
The project staff presented to Mr. Musai the action plan of the project which is being implemented for the innovative ways of use of olive cake, and both parts agreed to cooperate together.
